Welcome to BYC!!Hello from NY state! My chicks are on order and are hatching this week!!!! Delivery should be by Saturday depending on the hatch day. Coop is being delivered on Wednesday and to say I’m excited is beyond an understatement. I literally can’t sleep. Thank you so much for this forum and to all the members that post. I’ve been reading book after book and this forum is by far my go to place for information. I have learned so much and still have so much to learn. Looking forward to being a part of this community and sharing my journey, successes, failures and pics with all of you.![]()
Thank you! I have Plymouth Barred Rocks, Buff Orpington, Gold Wyandottes, Ameracaunas, Black Australorpes and Black Rocks on the way soon!
Hello, congrats on the upcoming chicks! What breeds are you getting?
Thank you! I ordered a locally made Amish Quaker style coop. It’s 7’ by 9’ and will have a 7 foot by 24 foot covered run. I have 15 chicks ordered (and boy was it hard to keep it at that lol). The goal is to keep a flock of 12 chickens. I ordered a couple more to account for any that don’t make it or loss to predators. Lots of foxes and raccoons and coyotes in the woods where I live and I have pretty good plans in mind to minimize losses. But I am also prepared for the inevitable loss. And I have plenty if room to add on to the coop and run if the flock outgrows it. Shhhh….just don’t tell my husband that lol.Welcome. You wrote a very good intro. I hope the coop you ordered says it can house 3 times the number of chicks you are getting....meaning, if it says it can house 12 - it can really only house 4.
