I love this site! New chicken mama...we had them when I was a kid, but not since, and now some 50 years later, I have chickens!! It's so exciting. I never thought I'd love chickens, but I do. I worry about them just about as much as a mama hen. So any time I needed some information, an internet search would almost always bring me to this site, which I have found to be "chook" full of information. So I finally decided I probably should join this forum since I spend so much time here already. I would love to interact with all of you.

We began our new life with chickens in mid-November, when we purchased 4 barred rocks and 3 Rhode Island reds, all (supposed to be) pullets. Babies were hatched on my husband and my's anniversary, so we'll always know when to celebrate their birthdays! And after spending many increasingly longer days playing outside, and spending the nights inside the house in their brooder, and after several days of predator proofing their coop and run, tonight they are spending their first night outside in the coop! They seem so happy. They were getting very tired of the brooder, and outgrowing it very quickly. They love going outside to explore. I think we acclimated them well, and they are ready. The jury is still out on whether we have a roo or two in the group. I suspect one of the rocks is. Time will tell!

Other than our newfound feathered friends, we also have two Queensland heelers and three quarter horses, living the lovely rural life on 3.5 acres.
