Hi,, my name is Gelene, I was raised with tons of chickens running in my back yard, along with many other animals.
I am from a small town called Burnsville NC.... I got "my" chickens last spring, so, it's been many years and I feel like I'm new to it, and learning a lot ..................................................I have the Rhode Island reds... I have 1 Male and 3 females... I also have 4 of the black chickens, but cannot for the life of me remember what they're breed is :(
so , I have a total of 2 males and 6 females... I want to get more this spring, I am thinking of the rainbow chickens, does anyone know how they are... temperment? laying eggs? the ones I have started laying in the fall.... I usually get 3-5 eggs a day.
I absolutely love hearing my roosters crow, and gathering the eggs, and having my "feeding times" daily.. it put a whole new aspect of rescheduling my daily routines but I love it!
I am married to my wonderful husband, who is a OTR truck driver, and is not home very often, So again, my animals, keeps me occupied. We have custody of our 3 yr old grand daughter, and it's being rewarding teaching her to care for animals, and to see the love she has for each one is very heartwarming.

We have 2 pigs, 2 goats, 1 great Pyrenees (Lady), 4 cats, and of course our chickens, We are working towards expanding our acreage here, so hopefully next year we can add a cow and maybe another goat.

Welcome, and congratulations on your flock. The black chickens could be Australorps. By raibow chickens, do you mean Easter eggers, which lay all different colors of eggs, including blue and green? If so, they are good layers and have good temperaments in general. I really like them. I hope you enjoy the website and find it helpful!

Hi! Welcome to BYC! So glad you are joining us. You will love it here, good people with good information, and social forums if you want to chat. Sounds like a nice little farm you have and a great place for a little one to grow up!
