The silly thing is the same fence that keeps predators out also keeps the chickens in. Huge upside......and almost no downside to you, except the need to maintain it to keep it working. A small price to pay for happy, healthy birds that get to live a long, long time.
Thanks! Yes, I have a pretty good outside enclosure, but learned it's flaws a few days ago when I realized the chickens were digging under the chicken wire. If they can get out, that obviously means others can get in. So I dug a deep trench around the perimeter and put wire down deeper so they can't tunnel out. Although the run has a wired top, I hung CDs around as well to deter hawks. Sounds like the only thing I'm missing is an electric fence. Will tackle that this week.
Attached a picture of our little chicken house. The run wraps around the back as well, so it's a pretty good size. Previous owners made it by converting an old shed. Just trying to reinforce so it's functional AND safe.
