(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

When I was young I helped raise chickens, feed them and also collect the eggs and helped with the end of a few. As an adult I just got chickens in May of this year. I am enjoying them.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

We have 11 chickens and I am looking for a rooster. Nope none of mine are! I started with 16 and realized I had to many so I gave 4 away. I ordered 10 Chicks on line - got 12 and then the local farm store got in Rhode Island Reds and they only sell them in 4's. OOPS!!! I lost one and I do not know why.

(3) What breeds do you have?

4 Rhode Island Reds and 11 Buff Orpingtons. So dual purpose birds. No I have not named them yet. They are pretty much free range as they got out!! I did not have the top covered. But that is ok they are doing well. They run back to the door as soon as they hear me come out or come home. Yep those feet and legs will provide food.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

I was looking for chicken coops on line and free plans to utilize materials I already have. Well I found one. Then started looking around the site. Seems like it will be a good resource for now and the future.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I crochet, knit do some wood working and really just like doing things the "create" things.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have my granddaughter living with me for years and her Mom is now getting better so has come to live with us. We have two kittens and a black lab who is 1 1/2 years old. I am retired/disabled. I was in nursing for 20 years and then completed by Masters in Accounting and did that for about 10 years. Miss working but am starting to let those creative juices flow and making some interesting things.
