Hi, I'm new to this community though not new to chicken raising. We inherited our first flock of 5 about 5 years ago from a friend who couldn't take care of them anymore. Since then, we've gone through a number of unfortunate events that have lead to us replacing our birds a couple times over. We are currently back up to five, but this batch has been rife with all kinds of ailments. The morning after we brought our new pullets home, one ended up with a prolapsed vent. We had to treat them for gape worm, and now my only adult is sick with what I'm beginning to suspect is sour crop. In the five years since starting backyard chickening, I've dealt with all this in just the last two weeks. I figured it was time to call for some backup.
Like everyone here, I love having chickens and I consider them family pets. They're full of personality and these latest five have especially wormed their way into my heart with all the hand feeding and late-night checkups.
