Hi All,
Am new to the site and a new chook owner (three girls). I did a lot of research and spoke to a lot of 'chicken owners' before getting the girls, but a few people say that i am spoiling them. Beside their layers pellets i do a mash at lunchtime, with mealworms, layers pellets, chopped apple, sunflowers, etc. I make sure they have greens everyday and they get courgettes, corn etc....but they always seem ravenous!!! They have been wormed and their combs and wattles are bright red and are all laying well. They have destroyed the garden so am learning fast! I have learned that chickens always prefer to be on the other side of the fence so to speak!!!! I do feel guilty when they are in their run which is large (they do free range in a 100'x 60' area for 5 hours per day). Any advice is truly appreciated.
