Thanks for all the warm welcomes! We were able to acquire another Barred Rock rooster, and he is fitting in nicely. In the meantime we have lost a few more hens, and we are pretty sure it's a fox, but even though we put up two trail cams to see if we could figure catch some pics of whatever the predator is, we never did get any pics of anything. As for the baby chicks, we did lose a few, but we do have 9 that have survived and seem to be doing well. The momma hen has another hen acting as a surrogate momma and is helping her take care of the babies. I put board across the doorway of the coop to help keep the babies in the coop , but they have gotten big enough to get out, and the momma is at least keeping them in the pen area and has not took them outside of it so far.

Good luck with your chicks though!!

Hi again,
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcomes and replies. Well we had a total of 12 chicks to hatch, and have had 3 of them to die, and the 9 we have left are doing good. The momma hen has another hen being a surrogate momma and helping her out taking care of the chicks. They are now venturing out of the pen and also finally all of the chicks have seemed to have finally learned how to get back up the ramp into the coop at night, thank gosh!
Unfortunately, we have lost a couple more hens to a predator, I know that this is always a chance especially when free ranging chickens.
