Welcome to Backyard chickens. When introducing new birds to a flock, this often happens. Chickens have a strict pecking order. It's best to practice a slow integration
where the new bird and the established ones are separated by a wire partition - so they can see each other without bloodshed. After a time the older birds don't pay much attention to the new ones and you can let them together with your close supervision.

Hi :welcome Lucy

Glad you could join the flock! Drumstick has left you some great advice on adding a new flock member to your birds. I've found this to be the best way of getting everyone aquainted before putting them together. Here is a lovely article on the look but don't method. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/introducing-new-chickens-using-the-see-but-don-t-touch-method

Wishing you the very best of luck with them all in the future. Good on you for rescuing these hens and giving them a good home.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Welcome to BYC!

The 'look but don't touch' method really works very well...we've used it for our flock and it has made the addition of new birds much smoother. Thank you for giving some rescue girls a chance for a new life, hope all goes well for them and you.

It's nice to have you here!

Thanks so much everyone really appreciate it. mavis is now in a large dog crate in the middle of the pen so they can walk around Her and see her but not hurt her. When I am there I try letting her out but they are still going for her as soon as they can! I will keep persevering I am just so soft! X
