Hello everyone who reads this!

I am a huge bird enthusiast, I study them nearly everyday when I have time.

I have been raising budgies for as long as I can remember and I just recently got some pullets! My budgies names are Link, Stormy and Tofu (Silly, I know but she’s quite the character!)

My chickens names are Fiora and Betty Clucker, but unfortunately Betty got real sick to the extent where she couldn’t walk to save herself. So as sad as it was for me I did the humane thing and put her down. I don’t know if it’s just me but keeping a pet that’s suffering alive for my own benefit just doesn’t seem right, but I really loved and enjoyed the 4 weeks I had with her.

Betty was the most beautiful crested cream legbar I had ever seen, and she was so smart too. Fiora is an australorp who has quite a spunky attitude, but I can tell she is becoming lonely without Betty.

I’ve been looking to BYC for while now for advice and some of its really helped, so I’ve joined now so that I can be the one to ask some questions or give out answers!

That will be all

Hello and welcome to BYC. I hope that you enjoy your time here.

This is a useful link of “How to” BYC guides to take a look at announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3. I’d suggest including your location using the guide in the link above. You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find your State's thread.

Hi! Welcome! I'm sorry you lost the marvelous Betty. I have been amazed at how quickly these guys get into our hearts.

My best pet when I was growing up was a budgie. He was such a character! I've been thinking about another one but i don't think he'd get enough attention. But they are charming birds.

Welcome to backyard chickens :frow:welcome
Sorry for your loss :hugs

Thanks to everybody who has responded, it is very lovely to see so many people who share the same interests as me!

And also thanks for everyone feeling sorry about Betty, I’m sure if she could have the same feelings as humans do she would be flattered :)

I am currently having troubling finding a good dealer who would sell a healthy chicken around the same age as mine, but I am sure I will figure something out!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
My condolences over the loss of Betty. :hugs
Fiora doesn't need to have a chicken exactly the same age as her. You can buy younger chicks and brood them with her in the coop but kept in a "look don't touch" arrangement so that they can see her and she them. After about 3 - 4 weeks, fashion a small door out of the brooder that only the chicks can fit through. They will be able to interact with her while still being able to run to safety and their heat source while they finish feathering out.
