Good morning to all, I just joined for all of the support and helpful advice. This is my first flock ever. I have 8 girls, 4 buff's and 4 RIR. Currently we are in a race to finish the coop and run by next weekend. The girls are living in the spare room (on a tarp) and are about 11 weeks old. So there is no more containing them in their brooder box. Late spring snow storms have foiled our plans on getting the coop done on schedule, but we are making progress now. I was concerned about the size of the indoor space of the coop as the men I have helping me decided to make the coop smaller. I have a 10 by 16 foot shed which is going to be 1/2 coop and 1/2 potting shed for garden vegetables. When I came back from errands the coop size was reduced inside considerable (now it is 10 X 4 feet. Is this enough space for them? I really don't want to tear out the walls as they have them up and done, but will do whatever is necessary for the girls. I am excited to be part of the group and learn all there is to know about being a chicken owner. Diane.
