I just wanted to say hello and thank you for having a wonderful place with tons of information! I am to be moving on a farm within the next few weeks. I had plans to start off raising a few chickens. However, I had come to find that the previous people had left some of their chickens behind. Each day I go over there, I see new ones! So, any suggestions on what I need to make sure they have for their immediate care until I am moved over there. They are in the barn but can come & go as they wish and appear to be free range. Any help would be appreciated. I did have plans to start with some chicks but it looks like I need to see what I currently have there first!

Thanks!!!

Hello and welcome! If I were you, I'd just provide some layer feed, and some fresh water for those chickens. I'd just let them free range as they seem to like.

Lucky you! You're already set up with chickens! I'd just make sure they have food and water for now and see if you can find where they've been laying their eggs. Once you take poccession of the property, see about converting part of the barn into a secure area for them to protect them from predators.

Congratulations!

Thank you!
I will stop at the feed store on my way home from work tonight. I will have to get some pics this weekend of them to show you. We have possesion but tons of cleanup to do right now so we are not staying there yet but hopefully within 2 weeks. The previous people have been out since April 1st.
They are getting in and out of the barn through a small hole but the hole is definitely large enough for a cat or fox. Which yes, I found the cat they left behind as well. They came and got their Beagle on Sunday.
I will also try to get a full count over the weekend also!

Thanks and I hope to not be a pain trying to learn as much as I can about them!

Oh, now you ask any questions you want! This is so much fun. I envy you, moving to a farm......I live out in the country, but no barn. Lucky you!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! I am from PA. I have been reading up on everything on here and there is just a ton of information which is just what I need. My plan was to start with Chickens but it looks like I better be ready now. Most of them look very healthy from what I can tell. There is one that looked a little scruffy so hopefully I will be able to take a good look at them this weekend. They seem to get really upset with me when I go into the barn in the evening and disturb them!

So, I am hoping they are in a better mood earlier in the day.
Yeah, we really lucked out on the farm. We were at the right place at the right time and I can't wait to be there. That is why I go over everynight after to work to get the cleaning done.
I have never cared for chickens before so please be patient with me as I step out into the wonderful world of chickens!
