Just joining this forum today, over the last few days we've used it to help us answer some questions as we start our little coop so we're excited to be apart of the community...

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We just got our first ten little ladies 6 days ago but both my husband and I grew up having chickens and our original farms that we grew up on still are raising chickens. 30+ years.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently we have 1 Buff Laced Polish "Lola", 3 Americuanas & 6 Australorps

(3) What breeds do you have?
BLP, Americuana, Australorp

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Through a google search of some kind, probably my many searches for chickens in the winter.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We are a young family of 4 working on starting our own homestead and the chickens are our second piece of our homestead puzzle. :) This will be our first year doing poultry in 4-H... we're really overwhelmed with everything but it's exciting learning how to do this on our own. My husband and I are enjoying bringing our childhood of chicken raising to our children. So many fond and funny memories that we get to share with them.

! Great to have you in our community! Awesome that you have reconnected with chickens and that you are involving the kids. I saw you mentioned a search for winter chicken keeping brought you to BYC. If you haven't seen this article from the Learning Center, it is well worth the read: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/winter-chicken-keeping
And if you'd like to chat with some of your poultry "neighbors," find your state thread in this link and say howdy: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you
Best wishes and thanks for joining BYC!!!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join us here! What a lovely introduction and a fabulous pic you have posted of your daughter Lola :D I keep mainly polish and they are such a friendly, chatty breed to keep.

Wishing you the very best of luck of the future. Be sure to ask any questions and enjoy your time here on BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

It sounds like you have a lovely flock and are really enjoying them. I bet your daughter loves the chickens! You also have chosen some lovely breeds to raise. I've always wanted Australorps. My grandma used to raise them and I remember them being so cute and friendly.

I hope you enjoy BYC. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends
