Hello from Oregon,

I am a new BYC member. I have had chickens for about 2 years. And there is a definite high learning curve to having chickens! Learned much about worms, feather picking, introducing new hens, dealing with an aggressive rooster, and hens eating eggs!

It sounds like you've had an "entertaining" 2 years with chickens, lol. It's a good thing they are so fun and interesting. What breeds of chickens do you have?

Hello!
Thanks for the welcome message. I have 5 hens and 1 "snarky" rooster. My hens are a silver lace wyandotte, ameracauna, a brown leghorn, and 2 austrolorp. My roo is a gorgeous lavender orpington. He does a great job protecting the hens from predatory birds, as we are in the country. Best way to keep him from going after me is a little spray bottle of water. The hens are very sweet, especially the ameracauna and the austrolorps.

Yes....learned my lessons from: losing a hen to worms, being attacked by my rooster, losing eggs to egg-eating hens, and giving away a hen that was too stressed and picking her own feathers. The chicken "learning curve" is indeed a tough climb! LOLOL
