I'm Maggie. I'm going into my second year owning chickens, and I'm loving every minute of it so far! Although, I am a little scared of winter and hope it's less intense than last year (I'm from New England.) Anyways, I read backardchickens forum so often that I finally decided to make an account. Nice to meet you all.

Welcome to BYC, Maggie! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Congrats on making it this far with your chicken adventure!

Winters are definitely intimidating, especially in cold climates. Here's a few helpful links on keeping chickens in the winter.

Good luck to you and welcome to this community.

Welcome to BYC, Maggie. Glad you decided to join our flock. What breeds do you have? As long as you have cold hardy breeds and a draft free, dry, and well ventilated coop to keep moisture from building up inside, your birds should do fine. Feathers are a wonderful insulator and moisture is a much greater danger than cold. Mountain Peeps has given you some good links to look at. Also, if you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock this winter.)
