Hi my name is Rebecca. I am new to raising chickens and well went a little crazy. I currently have 9 breeds in my incubator, plus two established breeds in my back yard. I have Coronation Sussex and Cochin bantam...and we will see what hatches out beyond that. So I guess you could say I have chicken fever.

Very nice to meet you Rebecca . Chicken fever is the best reason for joining Backyard chickens. Everyone here is pretty feverish about poultry.

Hi :welcome Rebecca

Glad you could join the flock! That's two lovely breeds you have there. How exciting not knowing what will hatch from your eggs. I too love incubating and hatching eggs it's such a great experience when you see the new life emerge into the world. Is this your first time hatching? If it is I'm sure you want to did more and more once you have had this experience.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your eggs, I hope you have a great hatch :fl

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Welcome to the BYC flock! We are glad you joined us!

How many eggs are in your incubator? What breeds are you hatching?

I just started hatching....and yes I want more more more....but my hubby says slow down I can't build you pens fast enough....I'm new been chicken raising for oh 2 months...lol. I have 7 speckled Sussex chicks, 4 Rhode Island Reds, 3 white Leghorns , 2 lavender Orpington, 5 Buff Cochin bantam chicks, 3 Coronation Sussex chicks, and I hatched 11 lavender Cochin d'anver bantam mix for a friend....so far this last hatch. I have Cochin d'anver mix, Coronation Sussex, Buff Cochin bantam, Amerucauna, White leghorns, Lavender Orpington, and blue laced wydonette bantam, in the incubator now. Outside I have 3 coronation Sussex,2 hens and a Rooster I named rusty. And 4 Buff Cochin bantams, 3 hens and a Rooster named old grouchy pants. He's always talking to me. So yeah I have Chicken fever and I still want to get more Orpingtons, Sussex, and I want WelSummers, and Sulmtaler's too...oh and Iowa Blues if I can find them because thats where I grew up....I must be Chicken crazy!!!

I am only a hobbyist, but I find them so enjoyable...I got started because of my nephews friend going to College and he sold off all his chickens. I was trying to help a kid in a tight spot and fell in love with chickens....so now I do the research and want as many rare breeds as possible. I did white leghorns and the RIR's for egg laying purposes to be self sufficient and help families that I know who struggle. Plus my postal lady loves delivering my hatching eggs...lol
