Hi everyone! I am new to having chickens!

I picked some up from the local feed store and they are so adorable. I've been wanting chickens for ages but never have been able to have any until now.

It's so hot right now where I am and I'm a bit worried about my pullets.. What should I do? It's 100 degrees outside. I have them water and dunked some in water to keep them cool. They're black stars so it's hard on them.

Thanks.

Hello :frow and welcome to BYC!

I am sort of new here, but just got ordinance approved in my Village on Oct 9th. So I am introducing myself and my girls.
I have 3 Barred Rocks and 3RIR.
They are all 19-20weeks old. Hetting anxious for our first egg.
I have one RIR that spends a lot of time in the coop, scratching around and being nosey of the nest. One Barred Rock (who has a pretty significant crossbeak, but holding her own.
I also have a alpha chick, who dictates her position at the food dish, over grass clippings. They all back up when she moves in.
This a picture of them basking in the sun.

Welcome to the two of you!

With the heat, when it's real hot here, I put ice in their water. I freeze bowls of water, and I use big bowls outside, have it .. everywhere, for them in the heat. They need lots of water. Have fun with your chickens. :)

I welcomed you before also. Shade, shade, and more shade, natural or manufactured. Misting hoses, shallow pans of water for them to stand in - cool feet + cool chicken..
