Hi I'm Anna

I have a little bit of crazy in my back garden, I breed standard quail and painted quail but have pet chickens too...currently my three female batams and six babies including 1 sebright (always wanted one and couldn't find any so brought fertile eggs, sadly only one hatched) I brought 5 day olds to keep it company and now have the task of sexing the lot...I have plenty of space so females will be staying but sadly we are too built up to have cockerels so they will have to be rehomed

I really enjoy my chickens, quite different from my quail which I know loads about, sadly I know very little about chickens yet lol

I also have 5 chihuahuas who love the birds and are very good around them :)

Welcome to BYC, Anna. Glad you decided to join our flock. Be careful with your chihuahuas around your chickens. Dogs and chickens do not typically mix well. We frequently get posts from new members whose seemingly benign dogs suddenly and unexpectedly decided to chase and kill their chickens, and not infrequently the culprits are small breeds including chihuahuas. Dogs just naturally seem to view chickens either as prey or else as chew toys. Welcome to Backyard chickens. When your chicks are 6 weeks old or more, you can post individual photos of them at "what breed or gender is this." and hopefully get your answers - roo or pullet.
 
Thank u all :) cos the quail are flighty all birds are in pens, the dogs aren't allowed in, and only come face to face with held chicks :) but the stand at the runs nose to beak with chickens lol and woe betide a cat that might stray into the garden my jack chi takes her security role very seriously ;)
