I just learned that my wife gave the chickens an entire pumpkin pie about 5 days ago. We've given them table scraps before but never anything as rich as a pie could that be why we are not getting as many eggs?

It's important to keep in mind that treats should not be more than 10% of their daily diet. You want the birds to eat their nutritionally balanced feed and not fill up on goodies...just like people, they aren't going to grow and function at their best if they fill up on snack food. And if they gain too much weight from overeating, that will interfere with laying. I wouldn't worry too much about 1 incident of pumpkin pie but wouldn't make a habit of it.

Thank you, The chickens will never have pie again, I was surprised she gave them the whole pie anyway, glad to know it won't hurt them but no more pie.
The colder weather makes a lot of sense. I have a heat lamp in the coop to help keep them a little warmer on the chilly nights and days.

What I can't figure out is how anyone could have a whole leftover pumpkin pie...there's no such thing as leftover pie in our house

I know what you mean. My sister had extra and was heading out of town so my wife and I took it home. So much Pie right after Christmas we just couldn't eat anymore. (Now if that would have been Pecan Pie I would have found a way) LOL
