Hi all! We'll be moving in March and I'll finally be able to start chickens. My family has been raising chickens for a number of years but now I get my own flock! Looking forward to interacting with folks on the boards.

We are so glad to have you join us. What breeds are you considering for your first flock?

Hi and welcome to BYC - good to have you onboard. Its great that you have experience of raising chickens, as well as the collective knowledge of your family - it will surely make your impending chicken adventure and its associated learning curve that much easier!

All the best

Hi All!
Thanks for the welcome! As for breeds, we are going to start our flock with Barred Rocks. I've always liked Wyandottes as well. I'm looking forward to ordering a mystery hatchery box next year!

Barred Plymouth Rocks are nice, I have 3 of them. Never had a Wyandotte but they get good reviews. You'll have fun no matter what!

Hooray for you! Barred Rocks were among our first girls, too, and you couldn't ask for better birds.

Those two are simply precious. I've also got three Wyandottes, all different color variations, and they are a pretty good breed as well, though not as friendly. You've made some great choices!
