Just a quick introduction...I am a stay at home mom of 5 kids (2 years to almost 9) who acquired my first mixed flock of chicks the spring before last after being a city girl and moving into the country the year prior. I have officially been bitten by the chicken bug! I started with a mix from a local feed store that turned out to be a handful of barred rocks, a handful of New Hampshire Reds (I'm just guessing...just in it for the eggs) and 1 buff orpinton. I was excited about fresh eggs and didn't expect to fall head over heels in love, but here I am. This spring, my husband went to work building me a chicken palace and I added some Ameraucanas, a few Isbars, some speckled sussex and black copper marans. They are all straight run, but it's looking like I have more than half that are pullets and my Ameraucana pullets (2 of them) just started laying a couple of weeks ago! So...hello from smack dab in the middle of Kansas!
