This will be a first for me to join a blog. I am so enjoying my chickens that I bought in early fall.
I have ordered a few more for Spring. I am wondering what the best, gentle, yet protective breed of rooster any of you might recommend.

It's nice to have you here! What breeds of chickens do you have and what are you getting in the spring?

Welcome!

I hope you enjoy BYC. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

Thanks for the welcome. I have 19 chickens of all different breeds. My rooster is a golden laced Wyandotte. I am getting 7 more various breeds in April. I will be sharing a few chickens with a friend to help make room for the new arrivals.
I just love variety and enjoy all of their different personalities.
I was just wondering if anyone out there has a favorite rooster breed. My "Roo" is great. He is friendly and yet watchful. I have seen him go and break up a squabble between hens. Yet, he has not crowed but once. And... do I need more than 1 rooster for 27 hens?
