Hello! I recently purchased my first set of chickens and have been using this site as a resource. They are now 10 weeks old (13 total). My family (wife and four kids) recently moved out to the country in Atlanta, Indiana. Thanks to all here for providing your very helpful and knowledgeable insight.

Welcome. You may want to post on your new state thread and get to meet others in your area. Just put state name in the search box and it will come up for you.

Congrats on your new country home. What breed of chickens do you have?

Thanks for joining us!

drumstick diva,
I've been looking for a way to get in contact with locals. Thank you for the advice!

N F C,
I ordered the "Choice Layers" package from Murray McMurrary (we lost 3 of the 16 and ended up getting one cockerel) and have the following:
2 - Cuckoo Marans (a pullet and a cockerel)
2 - Leghorn (Pearl White)
1 - Hamburg
2 - Star (Red)
2 - Leghorn (Brown) or Welsummer (I'm not sure yet...)
4 - Easter Egger

See below pic of all of them.

Welcome!

Congratulations on your new feathered family members, they are adorable!

I hope you enjoy BYC. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends
