I'm new to the group, so deciding to introduce myself. I've had chickens is the past, but mainly only Rhode Island Reds and had them for about 4 years. My SO decided to start over and get different breeds of chicks, so hoping looking forward to learning a lot from everyone else. I did the not so smart thing and ordered from a not well known hatchery and now the breeds I have, I'm not sure is what I actually have lol but I look forward to reading post getting educated and hopefully some pointers. Thank you.

hi kayley, welcome to byc, i am new here as well, i am still deciding which type of chicken to keep. i see you have kept Rhode island reds in the past, this is one of the breeds on my short list. can i ask how you got on with this breed.
i am looking for about three birds,mainly for slug and pest control but also for pet/egg laying.

I mainly was attracted to Reds because that what I grew up with, we had about 20 of them when I was growing up. I decided to change up my flock recently because I just wanted a variety of breeds and egg color. I have nothing against Reds (I kept my favorites,) however, I did find their temperament testy at times especially my rooster, he got kicked out of the coop by his ladies for being aggressive. So, their temperament could be something to look into. For my new flock I chose a couple of Golden Comets because they are a mix between Reds and Leghorns, they are suppose to have a better temperament and lay a decent amount of eggs. With my Comets I have noticed a better temperament they don't mind being carried and are more engaged with my kids. I hope you find the breed that best fits you!
