Hello. I'm new to raising chickens. I gave my sister permission to get my 4 kids each a chicken and she brought me 46 of them. WOW. I got a chicken coop built for them, and they are now about 5 weeks old. I'm absolutely in love with them. Lol!! I don't plan on keeping all of them. I'm trying to wait till I know how many are hens and roosters before I get rid of some. She for them from tractor supply and she thought they said they were Americana's but I think they are EE's. Does anyone know how much longer before I can what the sex of my chicks are??

:welcome so glad you have joined us.

46 .

They may have to be a little older to ID - but if they were straight run from TSC, you can bet at least 50% will be needing rehoming.

To get the best opines - you'll need individual pics of each in question and start a thread under "what breed, gender" forum.

Good luck in your new adventure.

:welcome
4 to 46...chicken math! LOL
From what I can tell I see easter eggers.
You have quite a few..it may take a long time to post separate pics of each one.
Can you pic a few and take separate pics of them, comb and a side view?

Welcome to BYC! 46!!! I'm sure those familiar with EE's will help you with the sex, but you may need to wait a bit long and post clearer pics. Look up the forum What breed or Gender.....Good luck!!!!

Hi and welcome to BYC. 4 to 46 is amazing chicken maths! :)

I'd suggest taking photos of each individual bird (don't envy you that task) in a couple of weeks and posting them on this forum -
http://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

More generally, you'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/category/learning-center.11/ and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

All the best

My gosh 46 chicks - your sister got somewhat carried away. From 6 weeks of age and up, you can post photos at "what breed or gender is this." Maybe you could just post 6 chicks or so at a time- so it isn't so difficult .
