Hello, joined to read more about raising chickens. Not new to chickens, have had 5 hens for last 8 yrs or so but never let one go broody till recently, it's been an experience. Had 5 Buff Orpington hens, one Rooster. Lost two hens this year, varmit got one and don't know why the second one died. One hen has tried to go broody over the years but never let her, my coop is small and will not accomadate a large flock. She set about 12 eggs, only 4 has hatched, two died and two I moved out to keep them alive. Momma is a good mommy but having lost 2, thought it best to hand raise them...
