From Alabama, recently moved to a rural location just outside Stockholm, Sweden on about an acre of land surrounded by thousands of acres of pine and fir forest. Had Rhode Island Reds before but - since live chickens don't do intercontinental travel - I'm now looking to start a breeding flock of Marans - they look pretty and deal well with the climate here!

I hope you find the Marans you want, they are pretty birds. Best of luck and thanks for joining us!

Quite a change of scenery. Good luck in the great white north of Europe and welcome to BYC!

Thanks! The aircon here runs in reverse - literally! It will be interesting to learn how to manage temperature (drinking water) and ground access in sub-zero temperatures with a couple of feet of snow.

Thanks! There's a very active chicken community around here, they organize regular "chicken swap meets" which are country fair-like events with everything under the sun related to chickens. There's a range of Swedish "rare breeds" of country chicken adapted to various specialties (some apparently love snow) and many keep their flocks in greenhouses during winter, making for both happy chickens and owners since with a deep-bed system, both greenhouse and chickens are ready to go in spring!
