Hello I'm Debz, I've just moved into my lovely new home on a 1/4acre section and I'm so excited. My Chicken Farmer friend gave me 6 little red hens that give me 5-6 beautiful brown eggs and I've used them to pass over the fence to my new neighbours. Now Marie down the back passes over her kitchen scraps and Bobbie next-door passes over home baking, I love my new town of Pahiatua and we've been here 3mths.... Though it seems to rain a lot right now.
This Sunday my Farmer Friend is giving me 4 pullets... aren't they young hens that haven't started laying yet? He raises rosters for meat on his farm, so hens aren't needed.
I've brought trampolines off Trademe, with zip ties and wire mesh they make great chicken runs. I have 1 for my 6 little red hens, with a retired covered trailer and 4 bread baskets with hay. And I have one for my 4 new pullets. I have attached a 40gallon blue, plastic drum on it's side with a roost bar and a bit of hay on the floor.
BTW I also have 2 rabbits that have just had their first and last batch of kits, 6 beautiful wee bunnies 2 weeks old, they also reside in 2 other trampolines with barrels attached.

Pullets are female chickens under a year old. At one year old, they are hens. Same with cockerels and the cock birds.

You are in New Zealand?

G’Day from across the big pond Debz :frow Welcome & Congratulations!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Yes I'm in Pahiatua, Wairarapa.
Can I ask you how old they will be when I should give them nesting boxes? Right now they are 18weeks old.
