Afternoon! My name is Jamie and I'm new to this chicken thing. I bought 12 chickens from our local Tractor Supply Store about 3 weeks ago. Ever since I've been reading anything I can find on how to raise them and looking for tips and ideas for a better coop. My family consists of myself and my fiance, my 3 boys and his 3 boys (2 of his are grown up now so it's mostly just the 4 younger boys, 11, 7, 5 and 5.), our 2 rabbits, 2 dogs, 3 cats, and of course the now 11 chicks :( Cant wait to meet all of you and learn a ton of information. Thanks!

Welcome to BYC! There are loads of coop ideas with how too's under the article section for you.

edit-- I see you are in Michigan so my coop ideas probably aren't appropriate for your area. But since your birds will be confined to the coop for longer periods during winter you will probably need more than 3 square feet per bird to avoid aggression when they mature. I'm sure someone will chime in with space recommendations.
