I am a homeschooling mother of 4, with 11 chickens, one very large Great Dane, and two lazy and indifferent cats. Our chicken journey is just beginning, and we’ve turned all of them into friendly birds (even the Gold Comet, when we can catch her!) that the kids love to pet and watch. I began with the quest of finding Black Copper Marans, simply for the eggs, and found a hatchery about 5 hours from me that sold eggs and chicks. I bought two...and two silver Laced Wyandotte, and a Rhode Island Red, a Gold Comet, and a good Laced Wyandotte. (Yes, I am aware I have problems counting- somehow 2 birds became... well, never mind) And then we added some black Jersey Giants and Brahmas because, well, they were too cute to just leave there! (I may need an intervention if I get close to the hatchery again)
Anyway, we do love our chickens, and I’m looking forward to learning more, and talking with others who might also be chicken addicts!
