image.jpg Greetings fellow human beings. My name is Harry and I’m a product of New Plymouth, New Zealand .

I moved to Singapore earlier this year from New Zealand, which meant I had to give away my beloved chickens. I owned 5 Plymouth Rock chickens and later added a Sussex rooster (not really sure of the breed, it was white with a black neck and tale and was massive) to the flock a few months later. One of my Plymouth hatched 7 chicks and my flock was growing. I gave them to one of my colleagues from work when I left the country.

In Singapore, I do have a small plot of grass in my ever so tiny yard that is perfect for some bantams. My next door neighbours also have chickens and were gracious enough to give me two; 1 week old chicks. This was my first time caring for chicks by myself without a Mother hen around, so there was a lot of googling involved. Sadly, one of the chicks didn’t make it. However, the other one, a hen, is healthy. I am in the process of finding materials for a coop as the chick has outgrown its cage. I’m also looking for sellers so I can add another 1 or 2 to the family. However, this is an almost impossible task as I still haven’t found anyone willing to sell. If any of you have any suggestions I’d Love to hear them!

I was also hoping one of you would be able to identify what breed my chicken is. I’ve been trying to find out on Google but it seems my googling skills aren’t very good.

I found out about backyard chickens when I was looking for help on my chick that sadly died later on. I was really appreciative to the people that helped me out. In particular, @Wyorp Rock.

Really looking forward to being a part of this communtiy!

Hi Harry and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. I agree, Wyorp is a wonderful asset to BYC - not only her knowledge, but the manner in which she offers assistance. She's not alone - there are many similarly great members that make BYC what it is.

Best wishes

G’Day from down under Harry :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you post some pictures of your girl on the Breed or Gender Forum someone should be able to tell you what she is.
