chickens tend to do alot better in a pair
Yeah, especially in winter when its very cold. They rely on each others body heat to stay warm. Each chicken puts out 10 watts of body heat, so if you have 5 chickens, that's like a free 50 watt heat lamp in your coop. When my chickens free range, more chickens seem to spot and signal danger easier and they just feel more secure and content as a flock.

Wow cool I knew they do better in pairs cause they get lonely & heat but I didn't know they had 10 watts each such nice information thank you :) & they do seem more secure like one of mine is shy but the other is more outgoing so the shy one seems to depend on the outgoing one more to lead her
