Welcome from New Orleans, glad you joined us. I see you have gotten some really good info already. I live in the city and have a neighbor, with 2 teenage boys, who is always happy to help out when we go out of town. We share eggs when we have extras anyway, but they have even cared for our hens when we went out of town for over 2 weeks a few years ago. I have also paid my then teenaged niece $25 a week to ride her bike over twice a day to care for the chickens when we were away, she was thrilled to be paid to play with the girls and take care of them. Don't let that be a deciding factor if you want fresh eggs. Chickens are probably easier to take care of than a cat. I wish you all the best whichever path you decide to take ... personally, I vote for going down the chicken parent path. They are so much fun, you might just want to stay home on your days off
