I am new to my own chickens (but have cared for neighbors for years).

We just picked up 6 chicks last weekend . We had every intention of getting 4 grown hens, but when my neighbor lent us all the equipment for raising chicks, it was a no-brainer. I'm really glad we went this way because socializing them has been a great experience for the whole family.

We picked up 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Black Sexlinks, and 2 Barred Plymouth Rocks. So far after only handling them for a few days, the Reds practically beg to be held. The Rocks and Sexlinks, not so much.

I'm really glad to have stumbled across this site. Seems like there's a lot of good folks here that like to help each other out.
