Hi! Ive been checking this page for information for years and finally decided to join. Let me answer these questions…
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
To chickens- yes. My husband and I have a small farm (Party Fowl Farm) in Schulenburg TX and have been raising ducks for the past two years. about a year and a half ago we got into turkeys, then geese. Recently the farmers market we do asked us to provide chicken also- so now we are raising meat chickens and egg chickens along with the other 'party fowl'.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
120 (ish)
(3) What breeds do you have?
black marines, black copper marines, naked necks, speckled sussex, welsummers, wyandotte, freedom rangers, cornish cross, phoenix, yokahama, and I'm sure some others.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Been reading it for years.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
farming. Lol
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I and his 8 year old son live on a 27 acre farm in Schulenburg. We raise birds, have an acre vegetable farm, and plan on planting an orchard as soon as we have time/money to build a fenced area so the cows don't gobble up the trees. We have two dairy goats (La Mancha) and a longhorn bull named William. Our house pets are Morty, Dillin, and Brutus (dogs), Joseph (snake), Salem (cat), and Oliver (parrot). Its a lot of hard work but we wouldn't go back to the city for anything!
