Hello there. I am here to learn everything I can before I take the plunge and bring chickens home.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
The coop will be our 2nd outdoor enclosure. I've learned the hard way that raccoons can pull out staples! Don't worry, they didn't get him! We also have bobcats and mountain lions so I've tried to be extra careful in building the coop. Here is the turtle enclosure. It is 10'x10' and has a little pond and a waterfall that is not visible in this picture.

I am new to chickens. My husband and I are building our coop from someone else's plans. It is a 4'x4' coop with a 6' run. We have finished building all the pieces and I'm now working on prepping the ground so we can put up the walls.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Zero now. Plan to have 3-4 to start.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I'll be reading through the forum looking for recommendations! =)
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Searching Google for the best material to use for ground cover. Sounds like river sand is the way to go.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Spending time with my dogs, family, and friends.

We live in the Santa Cruz mountains, about 2 hours south of San Francisco. We have 5 dogs, 2 cats, 1 snake, & a turtle.
