Hello!
Brand new member!
I have no flock of my own yet, but I am currently incubating some eggs and hoping this is the beginning of my chicken flock journey!
I am primarily interested in egglayers and old heritage breeds, but who knows where this will end up for us.
I am in north central Florida, (Go Gators!) which can be dynamic in its environmemental challenges. I certainly welcome any and all advice in regards to raising and tending a flock in our crazy state!

Hey! Welcome! What type/breed of eggs are you incubating? White Leghorns are great layers that lays large to extra large white shelled eggs, Black Australorps are brown egg layers. They both handle warmer weather and prolific egg layers, if you want some blue and green eggs, Easter Eggers are a must to have. My Easter Eggers are great layers add character to our egg baskets.

Coop advice: ventilations, ventilations and plenty of room keeps them happy, healthy and plenty of eggs.

I really don't know what breed this is. This is the rooster and hen the eggs are from.

I don't know much about North Florida, but I live in a Miami type of climate. My chicken love the grass that grows here year round as their primary forage so all I have to do is turn on the hose and water for them and it grows if needed. I free range to the fullest extent possible, offer my layers Oyster shell in the drive way and have yet to ever see a soft or malformed egg. Additionally, my coop is about 40% chicken wire ventilation is so very important down here due to the incredible amount of sun we get. Supposedly I have a heat tolerant breed but even when free ranging they look heat stressed.

Welcome to BYC and hope that is useful information.

Thank you! I plan to free range as much as possible here as well. Coop that will need to withstand predators and be well ventilated will be fun to create! I am looking forward to the challenge.
