Good Evening Everyone!!
My boyfriend and I are from New Hampshire. We are planning on getting chicks next spring. My boyfriend has a 2 year old son and we also have pigs here as well. So I have the following questions:
1. What are the best breeds to have around pigs and kids?
2. What are the best weather hearty breeds?
3. Most egg production?
4. Any other advice for a soon to be chicken Mama!!

  1. MY PIGS CHASE MY CHICKENS.
  2. MOST HERITAGE.
  3. RI-REDS- MY OPINION
  4. SECURE COOP/RUN. AND JUST ENJOY.:)

I would worry more about a young child being around pigs, which grow much bigger and heavier than any chicken. They could harm a small child just due to their bulk even if they have good temperaments.
As for chickens, the risk could be from Roosters (male chickens) who are very protective of their hens.

Oddly he loves them and they are very docile!

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Plenty of kids grow up around pigs. You might ask this question in our Livestock forums... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/other-pets-livestock.22/

As for the chickens, Orpingtons like Buff Orpingtons or Black Australorps are great layers, very friendly, hardy birds.

Good luck and welcome to our roost! :)
