Good Evening Everyone!!
My boyfriend and I are from New Hampshire. We are planning on getting chicks next spring. My boyfriend has a 2 year old son and we also have pigs here as well. So I have the following questions:
1. What are the best breeds to have around pigs and kids?
2. What are the best weather hearty breeds?
3. Most egg production?
4. Any other advice for a soon to be chicken Mama!!

Welcome to BYC. Define what you want from your birds - meat, dual purpose, eggs and make your breed decision based on that. I would keep a hen only flock until the child is larger. Pigs and chickens generally works okay, but some pigs will actively hunt and eat chickens.

I would worry more about a young child being around pigs, which grow much bigger and heavier than any chicken. They could harm a small child just due to their bulk even if they have good temperaments.
As for chickens, the risk could be from Roosters (male chickens) who are very protective of their hens.

As for the chickens, Orpingtons like Buff Orpingtons or Black Australorps are great layers, very friendly, hardy birds.

Welcome!!!! I have 3 kids from ages 1 to 6. Don't have pics, but I have a goat. Any heritage breed is good. My barred rocks are more likely to come up and eat from my kids hands than any of them. My brown leghorns are divas. Lol see with your eyes not your hands or they will run screaming.
