New here. I have had my small flock of 3 hens (1 RIR, 1 Black Australorp and 1 Black Sexlink) and 1 rooster (RIR) since April. We bought them at Tractor supply, my husband built a brooder box and then a coop and run. This is our first step towards homesteading. We plan to get a piglet this year. Slow and steady.

There is always space for more members on the BYC roost! Starting a small flock is definitely better for your first time raising chickens, IMO. Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!

Hello, and welcome! I'm thinking that you will still be needing a few more hen's then just the 3 for that rooster. They can be rough on hen's when there are not enough to handle his hormones.
