We are first time chicken parents of 2 barred rocks, 2 red sex links and 2 buff orpingtons! This site has been wonderful (and really addicting!) We're learning a lot everyday just being here and reading everything. Our chicks are almost a week old now and eating and drinking fine, except I noticed this morning one of our barred rock chicks had a protrusion about an inch below her vent. Here's a pic:

Is this normal or should we be worried???

Howdy...and not a clue as to an answer to your question! I like to go with the if its happy leave it alone...if it looks to be in pain kill it...but I am by no means the last opinion on that! As the rest will soon let you know

She seems as happy as her other 5 sisters, so for now we'll let her be. But we are definitely keeping an eye on her to see if it goes away on its own, which I'm hoping will be the case!

Have you started a thread about your chick in the "Raising Baby Chicks" section of the forum? You might get some good information there.
