Hello

Last year was my first for owning ducks and chickens. I had at the time 2 Muscovy ducks and 9 chickens, since i raised them together from day 1 at only a few days old ive never had an issue housing them together. They are all kept together in the same coop and i unfortunately had to learn the hard way this past winter.
Chickens are more hardy than ducks because my muscovies dont perch for some reason. Ive heard that ducks perch at night but mine dont. I had insulated my coop walls to the max but my roof and floor wasnt. I had only pine shaving as a bedding and two heat lamps right by ther perches. So my ducks didnt have any heat source. By the end of january, the temp stayed at around -35C for a few weeks, my poor ducks got frostbitten feet pretty bad, i brought them in in febuary till mid march and now they are completly healed and doing great. But this year i am insulating my roof and i bought an electric poulty heating pad that will be fixed on the wall right by the floor and i will not only be using shaving but also hay. I live in northern Ontario CAN and the winters here are HARSH. Also i want to note that my coop is about 9'x9'. Hope this helps!
