You need to keep them in a pen/aviary.

I don't have one so won't be getting quail. My birds are out and about once they are older and have a barn to roost in. They are happy that way.

Hi! Welcome to BYC! Sorry you lost Bam Bam. It's so lovely watching free ranging birds, but then those pesky predators come and spoil all the fun. We have eagles here too so we use bird netting.
