I have had 9 hens for about a year now, I have bought a Americana Rooster that is now 6 months old. I’ve had him for 4 months and he has yet to breed with the hens, crow, or show any signs that a roosters would normally do. What is wrong?

Ameraucana is a breed that is quite slow to mature. At 4 months they may seem very immature! I have a 5 month rooster that still does not crow or behave as an adult in the flock even now. He acts like a baby! He cheeps like a baby still and gives way to all the others! It takes time for them to mature. The other breed that is very slow to mature is the Brahma. Give your boy time, he will develop into a teen with raging hormones and start going after the girls with gusto in a few more months!

Thank you so much! That helps me a lot. My 6 month old rooster still acts like a baby and is scared of all the hens. I thought something was wrong with him!

Your cockerel needs to win the hens over. They are likely putting him in his place until he learns proper manners.
My Ameracauna started mounting pullets and crowing at 20 weeks. If he tried mounting a hen, they'd put the boots to him.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. Do you have any other roosters. A young rooster will not crow or breed in the presence of an Alpha Roo - because the Alpha will attack him.
