Hello!

The run is only 21 sq ft and should be a MINIMUM of 30 sq feet for three birds. More is MUCH better. You it's too small to put anything in it to counteract boredom.
Are you planning on building on to the run to increase their space? If the door to the additional space was predator proof, if you beef up the latches on the existing structure, if you put some type of weather proof coating on the wood and if you install a predator apron around the current run and new run, you could make it work for a few years.
They’ll be in a chicken tractor all day which will get moved daily and they can free range when I’m able to be outside with them. I’ll paint the coop this weekend which gives it a week at least to cure before they come home. I’m going to predator proof the coop too, I know the locks that come with it aren’t sufficient. I don’t have a truck to transport building materials or thousands to spend on buying a shed so this was the most feasible option.

Good morning! I was prompted to introduce myself when I registered, so here goes. I’ll be getting my first chickens in just about 2 weeks, I bought my coop last night and will be assembling it over the weekend. I’ve ordered 3 (16 week) pullets, 1 barred rock, 1 black Australorp, and 1 Easter Egger. I live in a residential neighborhood so I’m not allowed any Roos and I thought starting with 3 seemed manageable.
I also have 2 dogs, a cat and a boa constrictor- who eats frozen mice- not chicks! My other hobbies include crochet, sewing, cooking, reading and making all sorts of art. As for work, I’m entering my 15th year of being a dog groomer.
Ive never even been around chickens so I’m here to learn every single thing I can to enable myself to have happy healthy chickens and a clean (fly and rodent free!) yard and coop.
I can’t wait to get started!
Welcome! I just started three days ago with the same experience, other than growing up with some interesting chickens with my grandparents 🙂, mine will be hatching about when you get yours! Please post pics when they arrive 😆 I also like to crochet & fancy snakes, tho I do not have any & my partner says I won’t lol - good luck with the assembly of your coop!
