Hi there! My name is Lilly, and I’m new-ish to chickens. We had a pet bantum rooster named Tommy when I was younger, and we later got a few hens to keep him company and to give us eggs.

All of our chickens were full grown when we got them and they never had any babies, so I’ve never raised any from chicks.

Now I’m all grown up, and, as of 10 o’clock this morning, the owner of 40 acres of beautiful farm land!

Unfortunately, we’ve got a few things to accomplish before I’ll be able to order my chicks, so it’ll be next spring before I do all of that.

This year is going to be all about getting moved in, and preparing for a big 2021! In the mean time I’m trying to plan everything out.

I never knew there were so many breeds of chicken! And there’s so many details to worry about when planning a coop.

So far I’m hoping to design my own coop with a small run to keep the chickens safe when necessary, but mostly letting them free range. I’m looking to get 5-6 egg laying hens to start with, and if that all goes smoothly, moving to meat chickens year or two after. 😁
