Hello!

Yes... looking to build a coop ASAP!!! I have a bunch of wood lying around, some roofing material, and some pallets. I would like to raise the perch off the ground so the run is underneath. I would like to install (or be ready to install for when we can get out of the house more ;) an automatic door opener/closer). We are getting about 10 chickens... not sure how exact it is but I read that we want about 3 to 4 sq ft per chickin in the coop and about 10 sq ft per chicken in the run.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. Have you checked out the "coop and runs "section of BYC? Many styles/sizes of different coops and sometimes step by step photos and directions.

If you plan on Bantam(smaller breeds) you can probably do well with 4 sq.feet per bird, with others 5ft sq,feet is a good starting point. Roost space and nesting areas are NOT included in this measurement.
