Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Sorry about your recent loss. Do you know what happened?
We noticed that Luna had stopped laying. Apart from that, she appeared fine but had lost her appetite for treats. I inspected her vent area and saw that she was bald below the vent. Referred to Gail Damerow's book and it appeared like she might have Cloacitis but not serious. She started slowing down and we got worried as she's one of our faves. Took her to the vet and was told that she had fluid in her abdomen and a lump. It could be due to a tumor or egg buildup. Options: could have fluid removed via ultrasound, surgery to remove lump and/or hormone injection to stop egg production or euthanasia. We opted to have fluid removed as we weren't prepared to lose her. She came home that evening, died that night. She was close to 3 years old.

I was told that it is quite common, to have chickens close to this age falling ill. We miss her.

I'm losing over soon with similar symptoms. Sadly, there really isn't anything to be done when they develop reproductive issues.
