Pleased to be here and so enormously grateful for the knowledge I have gleaned from this site in the last few months.
1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My mom's best friend had a farm when I was growing up so I spent quite a lot of time around chickens (and other farm animals) but these are my first! We got them about 6 weeks ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 3 lil girls!
(3) What breeds do you have?
They are all Buff Orpingtons. Their names are Elizabeth War-Hen, Sus-Hen Sarandon and ReBuckA de Mornay.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love just watching them. Their curiosity and inquisitiveness amuses me to no end. I spend so much more time in the backyard with them. I work out here now and I'm pretty sure they think I live in the backyard, too. I love it when they jump into my lap for pets and naps.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love to cook (vegan), read, watch movies and tv and play video games.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I live in the Valley in LA and we have two cats (Boomer and Burt). We both work in the entertainment industry and are passionate about all things cinema.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Pretty sure I found BYC through My Pet Chicken - we got our coop from there? Or just random googling. I've been reading since we ordered our coop months ago and obsessing over posts / threads about brooders, raising young chicks and keeping them safe from predators. Very glad to be here.
