Hello!

I have no idea yet. :)
Sounds like you're well on you way then!

Just kidding. :D

The best advice we were given before getting out first chicks was to be prepared.

By that I mean;

Do your research on the legalities of owning chickens on your property. Our land is a farm that is zoned Agricultural and is located in an unincorporated part of the county so it was no problem for us. Check our local laws, ordinances and zoning requirements. Those lawmakers, aka Revenue Generators, can be tricky to navigate around so beware.

After that make sure you have your Brooder, Coop and Run area researched, built and fully completed. Brooder must be safe and secure and preferably inside a structure or home.

The Coop and Run MUST also be SAFE and SECURE from predators and will take a lot of hard work to make it so. Even in the suburbs you have predators so DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THEIR ABILITY TO GET TO AND KILL YOUR CHICKENS.

Then determine what you want out of the chickens. Eggs? Meat? whatever it is then you can research breeds etc.

Good luck!
