(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I brought my first chicks home about one year ago. I added two adult chickens about 4 months later. I added more chicks early this year.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 13. 10 hens and 3 (surprise) roosters.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Lavender Orpington, Ameracauna, Mottled Java, Barred Rock, Cuckoo Maran, Blue-Laced Red Wyandotte, Blue Wyandotte, Gold Wyandotte, Ancona, Black Sexlink, Brown Leghorn, and a Silver Phoenix.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Most of the time I love just watching them and spending time with them. They provide entertainment as well as tranquility for me. The eggs are great but I really love them as pets.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I crochet, play video games, listen to podcasts, and garden. I love everything true crime related and love crafting in general. I spend a lot of time at home and with my family.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I've been married 11 years and have a daughter. I don't work so I have a lot of time for all of my hobbies. I have two dogs: an 11 year old Samoyed named Echo, and a 3 year old Australian Shepherd, English Shepherd, Border Collie mix named Bodhi.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found this community before having chickens to help me figure out the basics and have used it as a reference for many things. I finally feel like I can contribute though I still have a lot to learn.
